The goal of the program is to help the student develop a career ‘entry level competency’ as established for the industry, through 2304 hours of Academic/Practical Lab Hours comprised of: theory, practical application, supervised clinical and outreach sessions. (The student will receive assignments and self-study project work to complement the classroom experience.)

  • Students enjoy many opportunities for off-site training and benefit from a very favourable student/teacher ratio. With the added support of a teacher’s assistant in some classes, the student receives personalized attention in their learning experience
  • Participation in on-site and off-site clinicals, as well as, sporting events assist to develop the practical application of a student’s studies
  • Additionally, the Academy retains an on-site R.M.T. Program Director to ensure that each student receives a well-balanced educational experience

Upon graduation: Our graduates’ pass rate on the Ontario Registration Examinations continues to be a success story!

  • the student receives a diploma in Massage Therapy from the International Academy of Massage.
  • the student is well prepared to undertake the examinations administered by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario to become licensed to practice in Ontario, and to earn the designation of Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.)
  • to be licensed as an R.M.T. in Ontario, you must have ‘landed immigrant status’ or be a Canadian citizen at the time of writing the Provincial examinations  - Out of Province and International Students are not required to undertake the Ontario Provincial examinations.
  • Competency Based Education wherein learning is structured around the ‘real world’ role and function of a massage therapist and which facilitates graduates to become a success in this health care field.

The Academy is now accepting applications for the Spring program which is designed to be presented in 71 training weeks or less.
–expected completion September 22nd 2011 or sooner for Fall CMTO Provincial examinations. The training completion schedule may be accelerated by the Academy, depending on the class size and student absorption of competencies.
Generally 4 days per week/3 day weekends (Mon-Thurs, or Tues.-Friday if Monday is a holiday)   Semester and Comprehensive examinations may be held on Fridays, as scheduled

  • This 2304 hour (96 unit) program is designed in line with traditional Academic learning environments, and includes: a summer break (July 30th to August 15th) a Christmas break (December 17th 2010 to January 3rd 2011), Spring break (March 25th to April 3rd 2011) and a summer study break (July 29th to August 7th 2011). (Foregoing subject to change with reasonable notice)
  • Some participation is required for public clinics in the evenings (1 or 2 evenings per week during Semesters 3-6) and there will be participation in various Community/sporting events on some weekends; with such dates advised each semester. Semester and Comprehensive examinations may be held on Fridays, as scheduled in each semester.
  • The educational pre-requisite to enter the program is Grade 12 or an equivalent ( You may apply prior to completing Grade 12 in order to confirm your placement in the program.)
  • ‘Mature Student’ applicants over the age of 18 (Grade 12 not fully completed) will also be considered – a qualifying examination may be required
  • Upon request the Academy will assess students for related transfer credits as appropriate
  • Applicants being trained under Employment Insurance programs, Second Career programs or, other similar programs are welcome to apply
  • The Academy’s program is designed to accommodate students who have no prior experience and as such, there are no pre-requisite or introductory courses required
Massage Therapy Subject Overview   2304 hours (96 units)

Subjects are generally divided into 24 hour subjects/units, which initially establish a foundation of knowledge or skill and then, build on to one another in a logically flowing sequence.

Students will also experience pre-natal and peri-natal training, understand how to evaluate articles, complete a research project and massage related projects. Participation at Community events such as:  the Run for Life, Cancer Relay, the CHEO Relay or other sporting events such as the Ottawa Swans Australian Football games, which may be scheduled events within the program. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a visit to a University cadaver lab.
