Certified Herbalist
This comprehensive 336 hour (14 units) certificate program is designed to provide you with a high level of knowledge to practice as a ‘Certified Herbalist’. The course will present a thorough understanding of the human body and the inter-action of the practice of Herbalism on the individual, within a wholistic perspective. (A unit represents 24 hours of training)
It will also provide a platform of how to use herbal preparations in support of other health disciplines and on an individual therapy basis. This knowledge supports the client's overall health care program, as they work towards restoring and maintaining health balance.

Herbalist Specialization

Herbal Therapeutics 1: 1a-An introduction to the use of herbal remedies for the treatment of skin related complaints & head & respiratory complaints plus herbal tonic remedies for the immune system. 1b-An introduction to the use of herbal remedies for the treatment of gastrointestinal complaints, musculoskeletal problems plus herbal tonic therapies for these systems. (24 hrs)
Herbal Therapeutics 2: 2a-An introduction to the use of herbal remedies for the treatment of cardiovascular & nervous system disorders plus herbal tonic therapies for these systems. 2b-An introduction to the use of herbal remedies for the treatments of reproductive system issues & other common systemic problems, plus male & female herbal tonic therapies. (24 hrs)
Energetics of Western Herbs: This course covers the energetics & properties of 75 herbs commonly used in Western Herbalism. Includes herbal therapeutics & Chinese herbalism to form a unique knowledge base. (24 hrs) Pre-requisite: Materia Medica 1
Chinese Herbal Patent Medicines: Learn what they are, how to apply them to everyday situations. (24 hrs)
Materia Medica 1: An introduction to Chinese herbalism covering: Qi, Blood, Jing, Shen, Body Fluids, the TCM Organs, Patterns of Disharmony, Herbal preparations/formulae for cold & flu syndromes & digestive system disharmonies. (24 hrs).
Materia Medica 2: Builds on treatment skills for the early detection & prevention of disease patterns covering the heart & respiratory, skin, hair & nail problems, body/limb/joint pain, depression/anxiety & the Chinese perspective on diet & more. (24 hrs) Pre-requisite: MM 1
Materia Medica 3: Covers practical clinical prescriptions that directly treat disharmonies identified using the Chinese herbalism assessment format. (24 hrs) Pre-requisite: MM 1 or Energetics of Western Herbs
The following requirements must also be met:
Pharmacology: Discuss the importance of accurate history taking & contraindications related to pharmaceutical & alternative medications. (24 hrs) Pre-requisite: A/P 4
Clinical/Community/Cases: Practical application of theory. (24 hrs) Pre-requisite: See Administration
